Sixth annual Basset Waddle a howl of a good time

As the sun baked on Saturday, September 24th, 97 Basset Hounds and their owners got together for an annual gathering of slobbery mayhem.

The event, called the Basset Waddle, was hosted at the Trinity Christian Academy schoolyard in the South East community of Midnapore, attracting Basset Hound owners from all over Calgary because of their shared love of the droopy-eared, howling hounds.

U of C presents Vandana Shiva with prestigious award.

“People have lost touch that they are one with the earth,” Vandana Shiva said in a speech after receiving the Calgary Peace Prize at U of C on Sept. 25. Shiva, who received the award for her passion for ecology, women’s rights, and social justice, said that people need to turn away from consumerism and turn towards planet preservation.

Hundreds of puppies and dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds took over Calgary River Park Sunday morning in an effort to raise money for the Calgary Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF).

As the sun set over Connaught Park on a warm fall evening, hundreds of men and women gathered as part of Calgary's 28th annual "Take back the Night" rally. The event took place Sept. 23 in southwest Calgary.

They gathered to raise awareness about violence against women. The event started with lighting candles. This was followed by speeches and songs from women in the community.
